History Of The Mill
The aptly named Holme Mills, the home of Jordans cereals and cereal bars, was first bought by the Jordans family back in 1855, and it's been integral to the Jordans family, and the brand, ever since.
Located on the banks of the River Ivel, near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, the grand building was first mentioned in the Domesday Book – back in 1086. A huge fire in 1894 saw the place gutted, though this prompted an impressive update, replacing the building’s original millstones with a far more efficient roller system meant that the process retained more of the goodness in the grain.
It wasn't easy for the Mill. Production was changing, mills were fast going out of fashion as industry wanted cheaper and more efficient mass production in factories. Holme Mill had seen through the great depression and two world wars, but an update in industry meant it faced closure. A brainwave by William 'John' Jordan saw the Mill diverisfy from just flour to animal feed products. However, this second string wasn't to last long, so in 1970, when John's sons Bill and David took over and turned to breakfast cereals, the Mill's future success was finally guaranteed.
