An interest in green living inspired Nicky Smith, a working mum of two, to become a beekeeper. She now has two hives in her Oxfordshire garden and has launched an Adopt a Beehive Scheme to help British honeybees.

When Clippy McKenna realised that traditional British apple varieties were gradually dying out, she knew she had to do something fast. So in 2008 she launched Clippys, an award-winning preserve company that uses only British apples in their recipes.

Dr Ray Woods is Lower Plant and Fungi Conservation Officer for Plantlife Cymru. He is one of the few experts in lichen and fungi in Britain, and believes that wild plants and their recently discovered fungus partners are vital to the future of humankind.
