Inside Jordans
Once Upon A Time
Holme Mills. Family home and business for over 150 years

In 1855, standing in a dusty auction room, the formidable Mr William Herbert Jordan resolved to buy Holme Mills. Located on the banks of the River Ivel, near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, it was first mentioned in the Domesday Book.
After burning down in 1899, the building’s original millstones were replaced with a more efficient roller system that could retain more of the goodness in the grain.
But as social change marched on, favouring mass production and faster processing methods, quality inevitably suffered. Fortunately, with the determination of ex-Royal Air Force pilot, John Jordan – William Herbert’s grandson and Bill and David’s father, Holme Mills stayed in business by producing animal feed products and flour for selling under other brand names. Once Jordans Cereals was created in 1972 the mill’s continued success was finally assured.

I've been a Jordan's fan since the days when I bought rolled whole grains to make home-made muesli ! I worked for Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust before I retired and remember your schemes to help families access our centres. Keep on working for birds....and people. We all love the yummy food !
