Help Hedgehogs Hibernate Happily
I noticed a hedgehog snuffling round my garden the other morning as I ate my muesli while looking out of the window. Like many kids I found them fascinating when I was a child, they way they can roll up and protect themselves is a neat trick if you ask me. I realised that as temperatures begin to drop away throughout the month hedgehogs will be on a mission to eat themselves ready for hibernation so here are some hedgehog friendly tips to get them through winter. Remember hedgehogs eat pests like slugs so if you like your flowers you should like having hedgehogs in your garden too.
1. Bonfires are a cosy nest for animals like hedgehogs, make sure you check there is nothing snuggled up in the leaves before lighting.
2. Don’t be tempted to feed hedgehogs bread and milk, they prefer meat so a tin of dog or cat food and a bowl of water makes a better meal.
3. Tidy up plastic bags to prevent hedgehogs and other animals crawling inside.
4. Try building a hedgehog home, you can find plans and plenty of other tips for looking after hedgehogs, and other animals by visiting http://www.sttiggywinkles.org.uk/

Hedgehog Heaven! Thank you!
Great article! Didn't know you shouldn't feed them bread and water. Will be providing gormet "whiskers" in future.
I love my hedgehog family, roll on spring when we see more of them, but i still put food out for them on milder nights.
my garden will be a hedgehog haven from now on. Thank you!
I am glad you done the hedgehog article. I have seen one hedgehog in my back garden and will try to do more to encourage them in so i can try to get photos of them. As well as the hedgehog we also have squirrels, ducks, & various other birds etc that live near me i try my best to look after these to have you any tips for them. thank you
