Burns Night Birthday
Posted by Rachel Marston 17 Dec 2008 9:13am
The 25th January will celebrate the 250th birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns. This seems to be the perfect excuse to get all your friends round and throw a party in the shape of a traditional Burns Night supper. All you need to make the evening go with a swing is;1.A Haggis
2.A toast to Robert Burns
3.Someone to read the Selkirk Grace', an old Scots grace often wrongly attributed to Burns but always recited at national celebrations: ‘Some hae meat and canna eat, and some wad eat that want it, but we hae meat and we can eat, and sae the Lord be thankit'.
4.Others to read Robbie Burns poems, for example 'The Address to a Haggis', or sing one of his songs.
5.Kilts for men and evening dress for women.
The rest is really up to you depending on your budget, inclination and imagination. Don't forget to serve the haggis with neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes) and a trifle is a traditional desert.
