Why Bill Jordan loves spending Christmas at Pensthorpe

“My wife Debs and I bought Pensthorpe five years ago, though we might be just a little bit biased we think it’s a very special place. There is always something to see no matter when you visit but around Christmas Pensthorpe, thanks to the birds, really comes alive. Usually I am only here at weekends as I am at Jordans the rest of the week so Christmas means I get to spend proper time here which is great, especially over Christmas Day and Boxing Day which are the only days we are not open to the public.
We specialize in waterfowl and wetland birds at Pensthorpe so we have many winter visitors like Teal, Widgeon, Golden Eye and Tufted ducks which come and spend the festive season with us. It’s a great time of year to see the birds in their striking winter plumage as they show off to potential mates. We have started floodlit feeding with the wardens giving a commentary so visitors can really get a good look at many different types of birds.
I love going for a walk round the reserve to see the birds and then coming back to the café for a steaming bowl of homemade soup to thaw out. We have a great gift shop too so you can browse to your hearts content and pick up some unusual gifts. In the New Year we will begin planning for BBC Springwatch to arrive again, so I plan to make the most of relaxing here while I can.”

I too love Pensthorpe, although it's been quite a while since I last visited. A Norfolk trait, maybe, not going to places almost on the doorstep simply because they ARE there, and we think 'there's always next year'. But for anybody reading this, it is a wonderful place and it's easy to spend an entire day wandering around and enjoying the beautiful and peaceful scenery. Take a camera, you'll be sorry if you don't.
