Being Nature Friendly

We are supporting The Prince's Countryside Fund

Posted by Rachel Marston 22 Jul 2010 3:26pm

On Sunday, 4th July BBC Countryfile announced the launch of The Prince's Countryside Fund, a new initiative aiming to support British farmers and rural communities. We, along with a host of other companies like Waitrose, Dairycrest and Müller Dairy are supporting the scheme because we believe in creating a sustainable future for British farmers and believe in creating a happier countryside. Thanks to the nature friendly farming scheme Bill Jordan helped to pioneer 25 years ago we have long worked alongside the farmers who grow our cereals so we thought it was important to be involved in The Prince's Countryside Fund. We will have more Prince's Countryside Fund news coming soon so please watch this space.

As President of Buckden WI I am so pleased that like the WI your company is backing British Farming. The WI have passed resolutions in support of British farming. I wish the Prince's Countryside fund every success. Perhaps some work on a farm could become an element of the Duke of Edinburghs' award scheme.

I think this is a superb idea. I like to know not only that I am buying from local farmers but also that they are thinking about hedgerows, small animals and insects. With everyone working together we can hopefully keep Britain a lovely natural country. Best Wishes.

It is very good that rural communtities are being supported by companies that are well known to the public it can only help, however living in a town with any food available to me from any country in the world I would love to be able to buy food from much nearer home without driving miles to get it, which adds food miles to each product for each purchase. I try to follow my beliefsof eating food when in season it tastes so mch better, I am not so sure that it is cheaper though.

I feel very strongly that we should all do our bit, not just via The Prince's Countryside Fund. No matter how small or large a person's garden or window box is we can all help make less of an carbon footprint and appreciate the hard work our farmers do for us especially in allowing us to use their workplace as our playground to visit!
