March Gardening Tips

Finally you might feel inclined to get your gardening gloves on and get into the garden to do all the jobs you have been putting off since Christmas. Here are some tips for getting your garden in order this March;
1. Deter weeds with a thick, 5cm layer of composted bark mulch throughout flower beds.
2. As soon as you can cut the grass. Wait for a dry day then cut to 3 inches, then a couple of days latercut to about an inch and a half. Once the grass gets a chance to grow it will burst into life so don't let it get out of control.
3. Around St Patrick's Day on the 17th prune your roses. Cut old branches right back, and younger thinner branches to about 6-8 inches away from the joint from the stem.
4. Tidy up garden paths by brushing washing soda crystals in warm water and brushing over paving slabs.
5. Tidy up the edges of your lawn and sew grass seed in any bald patches.
6. Cut back buddleia to within 6 inches of the old wood.
